So where does it all begin? Where do our issues come from? Well, it starts in the womb. It goes all the way back to conception. If your parents were druggies, you can be born addicted to drugs. If your parents were perverted, you’ll most likely have perversion in you from the beginning. If your parents were bound by religiousteachings that killed their spirit, there’s a good chance you’ll struggle to have a strong connection with God. It’s so simple a child can understand it, and in fact they do, if you talk to them about it. Sadly, by the time some people discover this information, it’s a little late in the game. They’re in prison, or in a desperate situation of some kind — perhaps on their deathbed confessing every sin they’ve ever committed. While there is nothing wrong with deathbed confessions and salvations, imagine how much better life could/would have been if that conversation had happened much earlier in life.
Human beings are the most amazing thing God ever created, and they’re not supposed to be evil. Freedom from all manor of pain, issues and darkness has been available for almost two thousand years, but it most likely will not fall out of a tree and hit you on the head. It is a choice.
Subconsciously we experience things and make decisions that have an impact on us before we are even born. Do you find that hard to believe? So did I until I started meeting with prison inmates in the late nineties and we traced their anger and hatred back to the womb, where dad snapped and almost killed mom. A child with that type of trauma can come out of the womb with a desire to literally kill dad (and they can’t wait until they are big and strong enough to do it). Then I discovered that these deep, hidden feelings are not just limited to people in jail with worst-case scenarios. We are all deeply impacted by the things we experience from the ages of zero to five, especially something traumatic. Jesus can and will heal any and all of these traumas that we collect during that vulnerable and defenseless time, if we are willing to remember it and confess it. Any one of the big four can totally freak you out in the womb, or during childhood (physical, mental, emotional, and sexual abuse). There is no magic wand when it comes to freedom, but if you put in the time and effort, you can be free. I’m talking about real, experiential healing, not intellectual jargon where you end up at war with yourself (0ne part of you convinced that you’re healed, another part saying, “Are you kidding me, you stupid fool? I’m dying here!”).
At Fishers Of Men, we are not trying to impress the masses or create a large following (this is after all, the road less traveled). We’re here for those who are called to be true disciples of Jesus, but some type of real and lasting bondage (despite everything you’ve tried) is blocking your path. Jesus promised some amazing things to those who follow Him, but it comes at a cost. What is the cost you ask? Everything. The first and greatest commandment (Matthew 22: 37-38) is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” It is impossible to do that if half of you is frozen in fear somewhere. But if your goal is to serve God wholeheartedly, if that is what you want to do, then welcome to the club. I hope and pray you’ll be encouraged and blessed (maybe even radically changed) by the information you are about to read.
